Western Jutland - the Danish esplanade
The west coast is rough, fresh, roaring and delightfully exhilarating. You will find long, wide and sandy beaches with high dunes as far as the eye can see. You can experience some of Denmark's most scenic sunsets over the North See from the beaches in western Jutland. If you prefer calmer water and characteristic natural experiences, you ought to visit the preserved peninsula Skallingen, where the seals are gambolling, or the bird sanctuary Tipperne at Ringkøbing Fjord. These places offer impressive sights, as millions of migratory birds gather here every spring and autumn on their way towards north or south. By the lighthouse 'Blåvandshuk Fyr' you will find Denmark's most western point. Surrounding the lighthouse the many concrete bunkers still bear widness of World War II.
Culture and history
Western Jutland exudes culture. Everywhere you will find churches, dune farms, old cosy harbour towns and provincial towns. Visit f.ex. Venø Kirke, Denmark's smallest church, or some of the many museums, which throw light on prehistoric Denmark, the viking age as well as the harsh life along the west coast throughout the years. By Blåvand the many concrete bunkers still widness about World War II.
